Sacraments

Baptism:

Baptism is the sacrament by which we are born again of water and the Holy Spirit, by which we receive in a new and spiritual life, the dignity of adoption as sons and daughters of God and heirs of God's kingdom.

For Parents and Godparents

When a baby is brought for Baptism - the first and primary sacrament - it is the parents and godparents that must give assurances that the grace that God imparts in the sacrament will be lived and that the child will be brought up in the practice of the Faith. This means going to Mass and learning about the Faith. It is for this reason that the Church takes the preparation of parents and godparents very seriously. The preparation is not to celebrate the liturgy of baptism but to understand the consequences of the baby receiving the sacrament.

Rules and Regulations

First time parents must attend a Baptism Preparation Session before the baptism date can be scheduled. Parents wishing to baptize a baby who have previously baptized a child at another Roman Catholic Church must also attend a preparation session. Please call Patti Mendoza, Pastoral Associate, at 322-4505 ext 24 to schedule a Baptism Preparation Session and to schedule a Baptism date.

For adults, that is children who have reached the age of reason (8 or 9 years of age and older), the Church takes into consideration that they can speak for themselves and so their preparation is more lengthy, intense and done in stages through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
