Altar Servers

Welcome to the Ministry of Altar Server at St. Michael’s! We are glad if you are considering becoming part of this important group. The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest and deacon in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. We want (and expect) altar servers to take this commitment seriously, while at the same time hope that they have some fun and enjoy the experience. As one of the closest persons to the Altar and to the Priest (representing Jesus Christ during the celebration of the Mass), the service of Altar Server is extremely important.

Who can be a Server? And How?

New servers attend a three hour training session. New servers are always first scheduled with more experienced servers. Servers are usually scheduled every 3 to 8 weeks, depending on which Mass you choose to serve at.

Servers may also be called to ask if they are available to serve at funerals, weddings, Stations of the Cross, and other liturgical celebrations throughout the year.

This ministry is open to St. Michael parishioners, grade 5 through high school, who have been baptized and have received their First Communion.

To arrange to attend the next training session or to ask any questions you may have, please contact Deacon Jack Krol at 219-322-4505 extension 86.
